It's been quite a while but better late than never :)

Questions from [livejournal.com profile] vampmuffin

1. What's the weirdest conversation you've ever had?

Not a particular conversation that I can remember but living with a man who denies he's going deaf is difficult at times. He's losing the high frequency range so can miss what I say if I forget to lower the pitch of my voice. Even then, he mishears and conversations quickly spiral away from their starting point. A recent one involved my calling to him in the kitchen to bring forks from the cutlery drawer into the dining room. He arrived carrying nothing and wanting to know why I was asking him about 'farms'. Of course, it was my fault!

2. If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?

I hanker after seeing New Zealand's wild scenery--blame LotR movies.

3. How did you first get into the VCs and what were your first impressions?

I've always liked reading SF and Horror stories. While at college, I'd formed the habit of buying a paperback as soon as I finished the previous one. The buying continued when I started teaching but I didn't have a lot of reading time. I remember picking up 'Interview with the Vampire', in 1977, assuming it to be like all the other vampire stories I'd read: hero detects vampire presence, hunts and destroys it. I read it twice that summer because it had such an effect on me. Here the vampire was the 'hero' though Louis would deny that.  I loved his search for meaning. When TVL came out as a paperback, I marvelled at the way AR had rewritten Lestat to make him the hero. I was hooked. I admit to having read all the VCs, preferring the first four. I couldn't wait for the extra year for the paperback version so bought the hardbacks from TotBT onwards. While agreeing that the subsequent books were not as fascinating as the earlier ones, I persisted because I loved Louis and Lestat so much. Then the last two came out and the Mayfairs took over, leaving Lestat more of a sidelined (and crazy) observer. Sad way to end it all :(

4. What's your worst pet peeve?

Scriptwriters who insist that none of their characters understand how to use personal pronouns eg "Me and her went out last night," or
"Adam and me are getting married." *head-desk! What's wrong with, "We went out last night." or "I am marrying Adam" ?

5. You've been handed a million dollars. What would you do with it?

At my age in life, I'd give a lot of it to my daughter and her man to get them out the financial doldrums most young people find themselves in. I'd give some to each of the other young persons in the extended family then use some on a Round the World cruise for hubby and me. Oh, and visit New Zealand and NOLA!

Questions from [livejournal.com profile] rebness

1. What is your favourite part of Liverpool and why?

Torn between the architecture of the St George's Hall area (you know, Picton Library, Museum and Walker Art Gallery with the column and fountain and statues. It's such a glorious statement of Liverpool making good and showing the rest of the country that Liverpudlians could be cultured and wanted to better the education of the less fortunate) and the Pier Head area (again you know the wonderful trio of buildings there and the Queensway Tunnel building). Probably the Pier Head wins because that's where the IoM ferry leaves from and I love the IoM. The entire Liverpool seafront is so special to watch both when leaving and when returning.

2. What is your favourite VC fic?

Scream!!! This question is the reason that it's taken me so long to post a reply and I still don't have a single answer! There are too many so I'll just list a few *hehe:
Long fics: Cesare's 'Secret History, MOM's 'Louis Blue', Orleans' unposted 'Chasing Ghosts', Danielle Anderson's 'As it ever should be', Theresa Isilwath's crossover with Highlander 'Deadly Allies' and lots more
Short fics: Emerald Embers' 'Imperfect', Bebe Avide's 'Behold', Glitterbats' 'March of the Damned', Daggettsmydog's 'Legend of Love', and lots more
Older fics: anything by Dark Angel, The Brat Queene, Gairid, Torch, Addie, Wiebke, Becky Durden (:P), Grace, Kabuki, KCBakeneko, Lady Black Death, Mischa and lots of others (Please forgive me if your name hasn't been listed. It's not because it shouldn't be there but because the list is so long :)
Newer fics: anything contributed by the lovely people at that wonderful community we all love :D Hugs and kisses to all

3. What was your favourite age?

My least favourite ages were anything up to 24. I just didn't get the hang of this living lark when I was younger. I seem to have been constantly worried about things that I had no control over. Once I met Gav I learned to be more laid back and enjoy life so since then I have enjoyed all ages. Of course, retirement has brought its own delights but if forced to choose, 34 to about 52 was very special because they were the family years of having my girlie at home. See next question.

4. The proudest moment of your life?

I have never been gooey over babies. They just don't do it for me, even now, so I supposed I would never have one. When Gav hit 40, I realised that I was being very selfish; that he would make a very good father. So I took the plunge. Luckily, I became pregnant straight away so I had no time to change my mind :) Those 9 months and the birth were not easy and I determined that would be the only time. I had wanted a girl and there she was--my responsibility (yes, and his). Scary. I was proud of myself though for having the nerve to have a child.

She has been the source of many moments of pride: intelligent, creative, beautiful and loving.

5. What is your life philosophy?

The world turns. Time goes on regardless of what I wish so why worry about it? That appointment I don't want to keep will soon pass; the bluebells are over but they'll be back again next year. Married nearly 32 years: the trick is you must be best friends with each other, not to the exclusion of others but better than all the others.
