Frozen Britain seen from above

This striking image taken by Nasa's Terra satellite on 7 January shows the UK deep in the clutches of the current cold snap.

It's expected to be the coldest night so far, -20C. Last night somewhere in Oxfordshire dropped to -17C.

Next door but three's cat is in our house at the moment and has huddled under the computer desk, hoping we won't notice her when we go to bed. :)

That is amazing. When I lived in East Anglia, even in the middle of winter, there always seemed to be a patch of green. It's like the little ice age! Has the Thames frozen?

Thames is still flowing but I heard the marshland nearer the estuary had frozen.

Wow, that's incredible. I'm sure it really sucks, but after a snowless, 50 degrees winter I find myself longing for blizzards (I'm sure if I actually had one, though...). I hope you're staying warm!
