Diamond Wedding Anniversary Bash!

My Mum and Dad will have been married 60 years on Monday 9th May!

We (5 offspring) have been trying to arrange presents, party and everything else that goes with a huge family get-together, without letting too many cats out of their respective bags. 23 of us will be together on Saturday. Hurray!

I've organised the restaurant, commemorative certificate (blinged up with 60 sparklies round the frame) and the card from HRH QE2. Yvonne has organised the cake with message. Trev has arranged for a lovely garden arbour--flatpack--to be delivered and an engraved diamond-shaped window for it. Norma has bought seat cushions for it. Helen and Dad have ordered flowers to be delivered on Monday. The arbour is from all of us and the men have made a pact to put it together on Saturday morning, without losing patience with it, the assembly instructions and each other!

Jenn and Mark will arrive in Warrington at 7.30pm tonight and we're going to collect them!!!!!! This will be the first visit since we began the whole-house-makeover. I hope she approves. She has an artist's eye for colour and form so I wouldn't put it past her to start rearranging the new furniture :D It's not totally complete yet: reupholstered suite arrives Monday and carpet for hall, stairs and landing is to be fitted on Tuesday. Then I have three days to put all the moveables back into their correct rooms before we (Gav, Jenn, Mark and I) go to the Isle of Man for a well-deserved fortnight's rest!

Thank you! It all went according to plan. Lots of laughter and some touching tears. I have to count myself lucky to have such a cohesive family.

My sincerest congratulations to your mum & dad -- please do tell them that they did a marvelous job raising a daughter such as yourself (you know, one that totally gets that L&L are the OTP of FOREVER!). :D

We had a fantastic time, thanks. Mum and Dad were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and gratitude: they knew we loved them but this was a special time to say so and show our gratitude for everything they've ever done for us over the decades.

Thanks, it went without a hitch and everyone felt closer to Mum and Dad and each other than we have for a while. These occasions act like glue to fasten together any cracks that might be opening up in a family and ours is a close one anyway. Laughter and tears and lots of fun.
