My own little room--image heavy.

Do you remember these photos taken late last year?

All the books stacked in the small boxroom, 8 ft x 6 ft 10, left in Jenn's room for months,




while the room was stripped back to the damaged plaster, revealing Beatles' wallpaper on the way,



 

well, this is what it looks like now...





I've always wanted a 'chandelier'!




Gav built the bookshelves. We used the strongest brass shelf supports we could find! I don't like putting books horizontally on top of the others but I've run out of room for now.




This, the box that conceals the slope in the stairwell ceiling,





becomes this, a seat covered in the softest, deepest purple carpet we could find!





Corner display cabinet for my dragons and Captain Jack Sparrow, to the left of the window.








My trusty treadle sewing machine and a weird chess set Jenn gave me :)



The armchair is a Lloyd loom, our one inherited piece from Gav's Mum.




Too timid to have my ears pierced but found some gorgeous earrings to hang from the brackets below the shelves next to the door.




My own little space and I love it!

I LOVE YOUR ROOM! I want to come over and hang out with you and play records and look through all the books and stare at the drawing of Louis and play with Jack Sparrow (I have a Jack and a Will and they are always up to something)..Ooooh! I love it!

I forget to mention that the horseshoe corndolly hanging from the light fitting was given to me by Gavin for our wedding and the tiny loveknot one over the switch was from him on our first date.

Oh, what a lovely space!! Can imagine you'll have lots of fun reading in here. Love all the purple, too, it's my favourite colour as well.

The light from the window is perfect during the day, then as it gets later I turn on my lovely brass light, which has a dimmer switch so I can adjust it. I can't have it full on because the room's too small to take that much brilliance.

Tee-hee, yes! Jenn drew the picture of Louis for me for Christmas a few years ago. He will be on the wall along with some gorgeous Louis and Lestat oil pastels that I bought from bohemian_weasel via ebay, once I have them all framed. Then it will be my Louis and Lestat room and Louis can drop in anytime he wants for a read, of course :D

A few years ago, gairid and I stayed at a very old house in the Berkshires. There was a tiny room off the kitchen. We called it 'The Louis Room' (http://www.flickr.com/photos/harpsichord_gal/2717785080/)

I like the single candle and the footstool. I can imagine Louis sitting with one leg stretched out, resting on the footstool. He'd sit as still as a statue.

Ear cuffs are a lot more fun than earrings sometimes. Also this is so fab. It's good to see that people actually do significant things to make their living space better. I know way too many low-level hoarders, it seems. :(

I agree about the ear cuffs. I have rather thick lobes so clip-ons really hurt. I tend to wear the screw type because I can adjust them to be comfortable but they're not easy to find. I've even bought clip-ons or piercings if I like them then replace the fastenings with screws. I suppose I could find cuffs online, to tell the truth I've never thought to search for them, fool that I am.

IIf you learn wire-wrapping (not hard!) you can make your own ear cuffs! Also, try Etsy for ear cuffs and jewellery, they always have neat stuff.

I think wire-wrapping is really fun, but be warned it does involve a lot of finger-work, so if you have joint issues in that area it may not be the best craft for you.

Jenn drew Louis for me. The little one on the windowledge is a cartoon of me! A good friend gave it to me as a retirement gift. She has never seen me dressed like that but knows of my crazy nights out to watch the likes of Rammstein when I wear my New Rocks so took liberties. Then she gave me the scarf to match the skirt, purple with skulls on!

This is the most gorgeous room! I love the bookshelves; I really think self-build is the best way if you want something really sturdy that makes the most of the available space. One day.... *fantasises*

The Box of Delights!!! Squeee!!! That's a memory from wayback. I have it on video somewhere but no machine to play it on, sad :( I'll have to look for a CD version.

It did get a DVD release and I think it's still available (unlike Moondial, grr). Good hunting! :)
