Oh, Kath...my deepest and sincerest sympathy on your loss. I am so very sorry. Blessings on you and your family. That's a lovely picture of your parents.
Thanks, Val. We're a family that always looks for the positive in events, even at times like this. There were tears on Friday but also lots of reminiscing and laughter. Yes, he's gone but we have decades of memories xx
Kath, I'm so sorry for your loss. I meant to comment earlier but waited, wanted to come up with smtg more eloquent than this... but I don't have the words, just know that my thoughts and love are with you and your family in this difficult time.
*huge gentle hug*
So good to hear that you and your family are cherishing the memories together and he will still be there with you in your hearts.
If there's such a thing as a happy funeral, we had it. Mum opted for a Civil Celebrant: a leader of the service which is basically Humanist but a prayer and/or hymn is allowed, unlike Humanist in which there is no mention of a deity or afterlife. Excellent choice of prayer delivered by my sister, the only deeply religious one of our bunch: 'For the beauty of the Earth' minus the refrain. One of his grandchildren gave a lovely eulogy, which had us giggling with memories, and Mum read 'Abou Ben Adhem' by Leigh Hunt, because Dad always looked for the best in people.
Dozens of folk for the service and nearly 40 of us afterwards. Beautiful 4ft floral spray from the coffin delivered to the lovely venue for the reception (odd name for it), which we surrounded with photos taken throughout his life. Then later, the family all went back to Mum's and great hilarity ensued as we played his favourite music and reminisced.

He'd have loved it :D
Thanks for your thoughts.
