I've got Friday off work so that I can go to York for Jennet's Graduation Ceremony. She always said that she didn't want to go but I said I'd pay for the hire of cap and gown and so persuaded her. We're going straight after work tomorrow--travelling three hours in the dark (and wind and rain according to the Met Office). The ceremony is on Friday afternoon in York Minster--woo-hoo! I've booked a meal for the four of us at a super hotel restaurant. On Saturday, while Jenn's at work (yes, she's got a job at last) I'll do some Christmas shopping then we'll go for Italian at Frankie and Benny's right next to the cinema. I want to see '2012'.

Working hard tonight to get next week's lesson planning done so I don't have to rush back too early on Sunday.

Jenn and Mark are home for the long weekend and it's sooooo good to see them and have hugs again!

Stayed up way past my bedtime to talk and watch 'Nightwatch' again but fell asleep half an hour into 'Daywatch'. I WILL see that movie sometime. Had to rise early to make sure hubby got out for 8:30 this morning. He sleeps like a log even through noisy alarm buzzers so muggins here always has to wake up in order to bully him awake. Not fun when I only got 4 hours sleep last night. Of course J & M are still asleep.

I think I'll go looking for the cat. They'll wake up for her.

Here are the photos of Jenn's work in the Final Exhibition. Of course, we think her work was the best on show and are very proud of her,

The theme she has used is that no-one presents an honest face to the world, whether it's a woman using make-up or a ceremonial mask used in a ritual.

Have a look at the slideshow but:
please be aware that Jenn has used animal parts in the construction of her masks: bones, fur, teeth, feathers, wings etc. She obtained all of these from reputable sources which deal with animals that have died from natural causes (or roadkill) or she found the dead animals when out walking.

There was lots of interest in her work. Here's hoping she gets a job soon.

Well, I didn't expect that. Mark's gone back to York because he's in work tomorrow but Jenn's staying till Tuesday because her first class is on Wednesday. Sad to see Mark go but HOORAY!! to have Jenn for longer.
mumsisdaughter: (Embrace it!)
Two weeks into the summer break and I have hit that wonderfully relaxing stage when I'm not even sure what day it is (I only know the time because it's there in the corner of the screen).

Gorgeous blue-sky day! The conservatory door is open to connect me to the atmosphere outside--I wish I could take my pc outside. My laptop never survives very long on its batteries, otherwise I'd take that outside (at last it's been added to the wireless network).

!! A strange cat, black and fluffy, has just wandered in to see what I'm doing. I said, "Yes?" very quietly, it stared at me then wandered back out! I tell you, I am so going to enjoy retirement when it comes, if this is the kind of thing that happens. (Small things amuse...)

I settled to Gavin's accounts yesterday. It meant some tidying and furniture shifting first in order to get to my 'dining' table but I did it. Then dusted and beeswaxed it to give me a lovely surface to work on and now it's covered with neat, date-ordered stacks of paper, sorted by type...advertising, car expenses, wholesalers' invoices, bank statements etc. Today's job is to check each bit against the entries in his book, then tomorrow, I'll settle to the maths part. He should be able to take everything to the accountant on Tuesday, along with Jenn's student loan application and a grovelling letter of apology for lateness from me!

That way when Jenn comes home on Thursday, I can with a clear conscience tell her it's all been done and we can go on holiday on Saturday with everything sorted.

Well, I didn't post straight away in case it was a one-day-wonder but here we are into our 4th consecutive day with no rainfall. Two days of brilliant blue sky, one gloomy but bright and today with high, diaphanous cloud. Temperature is warm not hot.

Jenn is coming home on Thursday 9th but Mark is staying in York for another week. Oh, I do miss my girly!

On my own for the day. Hubby is out playing trains in Blackpool. I'm sitting here writing reports--aren't I? Ha ha.
Just chose the rest of my icons and playing around to see what happens.

Jenn and Mark are going to a fancy dress party at Darklands tonight and he's dressing as a woman. Now I know this won't be 'drag' --you know all pantomime dame or Danny la Rue--he will look drop-dead gorgeous. They say they'll send me some pictures. Can't wait.

Well after an exciting few days all is back to normal...too quiet.

Jenn went back to York this afternoon. She rang to say she'd got back okay and was at Mark's house. I bet he's missed her. It's the longest they've been apart for 4 and a half years!

There was a moment last night at the pub when Gavin had gone outside for a smoke, that Mother and Daughter had a heart to heart. I know she and Mark had had a sticky time a few months ago wondering whether they should keep seeing each other as 'lovers' or just be good friends. I asked how things are and she actually looked bashful! Things are great, apparently, and that's wonderful news.

So now I have a week off work to myself. Ha Ha Ha! I don't think sooooo!

Two enormous tasks that I've kept putting off have to be done this week:
1) Gavin's accounts--yuck, finger down throat, it's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it! Jenn needs the figures for her application for next Sept student loan (and that should have been sent off last Friday--Whoops!).
2) Reports--double yuck, don't get me wrong I love my job and most of the children are great to work with but I do HATE all the blessed paperwork and this'll take f***ing ages this year as there are 32 of them.

Time for a mass DVD watch I think--shall it be LotR all in extended version, or Queer as Folk (UK followed by US) or the next box of HIghlander??

Yippee! Jenn arrived after a protracted train journey, about an hour ago. It's so lovely to have her home even if only for a few days. She's going to St George's hall tomorrow evening to see the Vivienne Westwood charity fashion show. £50 a ticket! I hope it's worth it.

Well after a very successful baptism into LJ land, becoming a member of two VC communities and being friended by daggetsmydog, I'm not sure when I'll be posting again. Work is stressful at the moment--new initiatives coming on down so fast my poor old brain can't keep up. And of course it all means extra time spent on schoolwork at home. Just after having completed the Wellbeing Survey, of course. I'd answer those ****ing questions differently now!
On a much happier note, Jenn is coming home sometime this week, maybe even tomorrow!! Yippee!!!!
